The air-fuel ratio (AFR) and particle size spectrum have a strong impact on the combustion process. They influence ignition delay, combustion efficiency and LoI, the emission levels as well as slagging and fouling. Despite the significance of this property, there has not yet been a robust and easy to handle system for the online measurement and control of coal flow inside the pipes and AFR at burner level.

EUcoalflow is a online system for dynamic coal flow balancing. It is based on non-intrusive micro-wave EUcoalflow sensors which continuously measure the coal velocity and mass flow inside vertical coal pipes and quantify the imbalance of coal flow from pipe to pipe. The proper air fuel ratio can be adjusted either by control of the coal flow with orificing valves, or by control of the secondary air dampers.

For control we apply our EUcoalflow control unit which either allows independent operation from the DCS system or transfers data and set-points to the DCS.

The modular system design allows easy adaptation to the mill and pipe arrangement at customer site.
